Most people’s perspectives on negotiation are very narrow and limited.  The reality is we negotiate all day — at work (internally and externally), at home, and with the world around us.  To negotiate most effectively we need to utilize a strategy that meets our short-term needs while building long-term relationships.  Not only is this possible, but it is essential to effective deal-making.

This approach is so critical because it helps to find the hidden value that exists in negotiation, and that’s what creates the best deals possible. This is an invaluable experience for anyone who negotiates, which is really all of us.

About Joshua

Joshua N. Weiss Ph.D. is the co-founder of the Global Negotiation Initiative at Harvard University and a Senior Fellow at the Harvard Negotiation Project.  He is also the Director of the Master of Science degree in leadership and negotiation at Bay Path University.

Dr. Weiss has spoken and published on leadership, negotiation, and dealing with conflict.  He has published in numerous journals and written 7 books on the subjects.  He has created innovative products that use technology to convey negotiation to a broad audience, including the Negotiation Tip of the Week (NTOW) podcast and the Negotiator In You Audiobook and eBook series published through the BBC.

Dr. Weiss provided the Microsoft International Standards team with expertise and insights that were immediately relevant to our work. We are engaged in complex, multi-party negotiations on a daily basis--the framework and case studies presented in the training were excellent. Dr. Weiss gave us a common vocabulary as a team, and the tools we need to apply the training directly to our active negotiations. ​
